Dr. Abebe Taffere, RPA, has over seven years of experience in the field of archaeology and cultural resource management across Florida and in Ethiopia. He worked on numerous federal, state, energy and power, and private sector projects in Florida ranging from small-scale survey to large-scale excavation. Dr. Taffere has worked as a research mentor and researcher at the University of Florida's Ethiopia Field School Program. In addition to his fieldwork, Dr. Taffere conducted an extensive analysis and curation of both prehistoric and historic artifacts collected across the United States. His current role as a TerraX Archaeologist/Field Director includes leading field crews, overseeing artifact collection and initial sorting, ensuring quality control of project deliverables, and managing all aspects of field surveys under the guidance and supervision of his Principal Investigator/Project Manager. Taffere earned a B.A. in History and M.A. in Archaeology from Addis Ababa University. He further acquired a master’s degree in Erasmus Mundus Quaternary and prehistory jointly from University of Ferrara, Natural History Museum of Paris, University of Tarragona, and Polytechnic Institute of Tomar in 2015. Dr. Taffere earned his Ph.D in Anthropology from the University of Florida in 2023. His study focused on prehistoric human dispersal and refugia.
